Over the course of the 2020/21 lockdowns and restrictions, I started a complete overhaul of my lifestyle – revisiting the life I intend to live, the legacy I want to leave behind, what time my current and any future businesses would play in designing a life that both made me happy. For me, managing all my passions was critical for an authentic thriving chance for Gugu Intimates. The happier I am, the better my experience and the outputs of my businesses is. The question of whether we can be happy and thriving in challenging entrepreneurial conditions is one I want to answer with a YES day to day.
I know exactly what it is like to feel the need to feel increasingly uncomfortable with where you are versus where you could be. The breaking point of that discomfort sets off an entire journey of self-discovery.
In my story, I am no stranger to packing myself up from either a job, city or country to unlock my calling. Having started a breakthrough product and underwear brand Gugu Intimates – I simultaneously started a strategy consultancy that would cater to and support the unconventional entrepreneur like myself. I left the mainstream corporate world to redefine my working hours, ways of working, who I worked with and how I showed up in my own life without the restless ‘hustle’ mentality expected of entrepreneurs (You know. They grind we sleep? It just was not for me.)
Fast forward to today where I have deeply rooted myself in my understanding that firstly, this Human Being is a Soul that came here equipped to grow this brand with well-meaning products and services. I lean into my over a decade of corporate experience building multinational challenger brands, leading cross-functional teams and managing the growth of people in my various teams with my intuition, with spiritual awareness, tools, therapies and support system to enjoy this business journey as challenging as it often is.
Before that, what I found before as entrepreneur support is an excess of business tools, templates and studies – but no support to navigate the mammoth task of being a first, an ‘only’ or the best, in industries where none have ventured. To grow the first skin-colored underwear brand in Africa, I chose to throw away the modules and rule books, to align my business more with my soul purpose.
Now I help others to do the same.
